Every Day She Rose

Every Day She Rose challenged the way I perceive the world. The play explores the intersectionality of the queer and Black communities, asking us to confront numerous questions: What does it mean to be an ally? How do we continue to celebrate these communities while also keeping each other accountable? The conflict within this piece holds up a mirror to our own world, reflecting the complexities of privilege, identity, and empathy, and testing how we choose to grow through action.

Body Count
by Grace Lawrence

Body Count introduced me to directing a new play in collaboration with a fellow friend and playwright. Through a story about two strangers, Lila and Nick, who meet at a speed-dating event, Lawrence explores their differing objectives, both under the guise to "increase their body count." This dark comedy speaks to how we approach gender stereotypes and explores the balance of expectation and reality. Collaborating with the playwright provided a wealth of knowledge and detail that informed the world I was able to craft alongside the actors of this small yet powerful tale.
